Lives and works in United Kingdom
Abdullah Qureshi is an independent fine art professional and the creative director at Gallery 39K in Lahore, Pakistan. He completed his Masters Degree in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, UK in 2011. His work has been exhibited internationally. Qureshi was born in Lahore and currently lives and works in London.
Interested in painterly dialogue between the representational and the abstract, Abdullah Qureshi challenges standardized definitions of painting and deconstructs its traditional role to build relationships with other forms of image making.
‘Painterly Love’ is part of a larger series ‘22.12.10-03.01.11’. Employing personal photographs and gloss paint, the works demonstrate how abstract intervention on a photograph adds dimensions to its narrative. While exploring sexuality has never been Qureshi’s primary concern, in this series he responds to love-life anxieties while holidaying in the Middle East. The masked identity of the subjects is a natural reaction to the environment. Qureshi believes that this along with other works in the series are a product of disappointment caused by Islamic society where the need to be discrete is amplified.
